Description

Abell 35 also known as Sh2-313 is a very faint planetary nebula, or not.

Research indicates the distance to the central binary star system is approximately 520 LYs from Earth and has a diameter of about 5.2 LYs, making it one of the largest planetary nebulas known. It is deduced the central star is a Binary System with a very hot white dwarf in a close orbit. This has been subsequently verified with the temperature of the companion white dwarf in excess of 150,000 K.  There is a bow shock feature to the NW of the central star that indicates the central Binary Star System is plowing through the interstellar medium at supersonic speeds.  This feature indicates the nebula is not a classic planetary but is a Region of the Interstellar Medium that is being ionized by intense radiation from the hot white dwarf forming a Stromgren Sphere.

This is an early version as I plan to gather more data in the coming weeks to produce a more detailed image.

Thanks, Eddie
